Award Decision
Selection of award winners shall be based on the recommendations of a committee named by the Director of the Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies, or in their place, the SDS Program Director. The Committee shall include faculty members associated with SDS, and alumni members of LGBTOUT. Nominations for alumni members of the Committee shall be sought from LGBTOUT.
Eligibility Criteria
Enrolment as an undergraduate in any first-entry division on any campus of the University of Toronto.
Financial need demonstrated through eligibility for OSAP. (If the student did not apply for OSAP, they must complete a special eligibility form demonstrating financial need.)*
Permanent resident of the province of Ontario.*
*This criterion only applies to two (2) of the three (3) awards.
Selection Criteria
The Committee shall look primarily for outstanding volunteer contributions to creating change on campus or in the community through LGBTQ community service and/or activism.
The Committee shall also recognize community service or activist engagement that addresses inequities along lines of gender, race, dis/ability, etc. in addition to sexual diversity.
The Committee shall not make selections primarily on the basis of academic excellence, but shall look for a commitment to academic achievement as one of the selection criteria, keeping in mind the time and energy entailed in creating change through community service or activism.
